Online Safety
These resources are designed to support parents and carers to keep their children safe online:
- Thinkuknow provides advice from the National Crime Agency (NCA) on staying safe online
- Parent info is a collaboration between Parentzone and the NCA providing support and guidance for parents from leading experts and organisations
- Childnet offers a toolkit to support parents and carers of children of any age to start discussions about their online life, to set boundaries around online behaviour and technology use, and to find out where to get more help and support
- Internet matters provides age-specific online safety checklists, guides on how to set parental controls on a range of devices, and a host of practical tips to help children get the most out of their digital world
- London Grid for Learning has support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online, including tips to keep primary aged children safe online
- Net-aware has support for parents and carers from the NSPCC, including a guide to social networks, apps and games
- Let’s Talk About It has advice for parents and carers to keep children safe from online radicalisation
- UK Safer Internet Centre has tips, advice, guides and other resources to help keep children safe online, including parental controls offered by home internet providers and safety tools on social networks and other online services
Term Time Leave of Absence
Parents and carers have a statutory duty to ensure that their children attend school regularly. Attendance is essential to a child’s progress, wellbeing and achievement. Requests for leave of absence during term time should be made in advance and will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. If you need to request a term-time leave of absence, please complete the Term Time Leave of Absence form and return it to the school office for consideration.
In line with Suffolk County Council guidance, unauthorised term-time absence may result in the issue of a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN). A penalty notice is issued to each parent/carer for each child and is £80 if paid within 21 days, rising to £160 if paid within 28 days. Where two penalty notices have been issued to a parent/carer within a three-year period, any further unauthorised absence may be dealt with through prosecution in the Magistrates’ Court rather than the issue of a further penalty notice.

The phones and emails are answered by the School nursing team and therefore general queries should be dealt with through these methods.

Parents can also text the school nursing service on 07507 333356, this is a texting only service and is manned from 9am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Severe Weather
In the event of adverse weather conditions please listen to the local radio stations for regular updates. Please assume we are OPEN unless you hear otherwise via one of the official methods of communications – school website, Parentmail or BBC Radio Suffolk. In the event of snow, please ensure your child/children come to school in wellington boots (with shoes to change into) and coat. They will not be allowed out to play unless they have the appropriate footwear and warm clothing.
If anybody who lives nearby feels able to volunteer to help clear snow from the school playground and car park entrance early in the day (7.30am) on “severe weather days”, we are compiling a list of volunteers in the office and would be very grateful to hear from you!

Wrap Around Care
The aim of St Mary's wrap around provision is to provide a high-quality wrap around care. We will provide a small breakfast and a light snack at the beginning/end of their school day.
The children are encouraged to be fully involved in the running of the clubs and are regularly consulted regarding which activities they prefer and whether they have any ideas or suggestions for improvement. Your comments are also welcome, so please feel free to let us know your views.
